The Recreation & Parks Association of Nunavut (RPAN) is pleased to once again be hosting the Get Happy Summer Day staff training program in 2026. Our most successful program, we have grown from five communities in our pilot year, and in 2025, we had 16 communities participating.
At this time, we are planning for in person staff training. Training will be in Iqaluit, June 15 – 19, 2026 not including travel days.
Youth leaders plus one supervisor/recreation coordinator will attend four-day training sessions that will provide training as leaders and develop skills they can use to create positive change in the communities through physical activity, creative arts and sport, and through the implementation of a six - eight (6 -8) week summer day camps for children ages 5 – 12 years. Youth leaders will participate in a variety of interactive workshops and activities that will prepare them to implement their Get Happy Summer Day Camp programs, a project aimed at improving the lives of children and youth in their communities.
Participants will also receive training and certification First Aid. Training will also be hosted with the Jays Care Foundation supporting a fun baseball program in day camps. We are also looking to add training to include new partners and programming.
At the conclusion of the training week, participants will be fully prepared, confident, excited and skilled to return to their home communities to deliver quality summer day camps. This includes daily activity plans, equipment and arts/crafts/snack check lists, registration forms and promotional material.
